I got to see my family, meet my brother's new girlfriend, everything! I also had an amazing trip to Northern VA and DC. Thank you John (my future husband) and Jimmie for letting me crash!

My holidays consisted of driving to my parents house after work on December 23rd, being about as lazy as I could until December 27th and then drove up to see my friend's in DC and NOVA. Sunday was lazy, watched movies with John. Then Monday after picking Jimmie up from the airport, we went out in Arlington. I wanted 1/2 price burgers at Whitlow's and we all met there! I got to see Melinda, Jeremy, Amy, Nathan, Tawni and Mark!!! :-) After that we went to Four Courts, where I saw a passed out girl being carried out by a boyfriend or good guy friend. I went back to the fam's on Tuesday and my aunt had everyone over for dinner. Mmmm.... Then headed back on Wednesday.

My new year's eve was insane. A bunch of people from the chophouse came over and we had way to much fun, which turned into laziness until 3 or 4 the next afternoon.... :-) Movies and breakfast.

Well, since then, just being hanging out with my closest friend here and trying to figure out how to make this a wonderful new year. My 2010 horoscope said that I would reap the benefits of being good to others, that good karma that I have built up will finally benefit!!! YAY!!!

I signed up to do the Country Music Marathon, keep me in your thoughts!!! :-)

Party, party, party...

So, I've been at it for 2 nights now, I'm tired... Sunday night we had the Chophouse holiday party at my house, that turned into flip cup and wii... LOADS of fun! I still have over a case of beer left!!!

Well, last night was the Rodan+Fields party at the Aloft hotel in Franklin. It was soooo much fun! We got dressed up and had a few drinks. I forgot to get a picture with my date... Next time I guess...

Well, besides that I've been just keeping up with the menial things of life... Exhausted from working at the Chophouse so much. What's sad is I put in a 2 week notice and was still working 5 weeks later... That's okay, they needed me.

I signed up to do the Country Music Marathon! 26.2 miles. My training starts this week, I chose an 18 week program... Michael, my best friend's husband is doing it and we'll see how training goes and if I'll be able to keep up with him. ;-) It's April 24th, 4 days after my birthday! :-) Also, the weekend following is our projected Bahamas weekend. What an awesome way to get in beach body shape and then relax after doing a marathon????

I'm hoping for a very Merry Christmas to my friends and family and an AWESOME new year (YAY 2010)!!!

Chilly winter days

So, I figured it's time for a new post.

I definitely miss the summer! It's flippin' cold outside. One of my biggest concerns lately has been about my dog Otis. He's a 2 year old English Springer Spaniel and I've come home to him shivering (I leave him in the garage that has a doggie door out to the fenced in backyard). So, I was going to go to Pet Smart and get him a doggie door into the wash room, but my mom said she had a friend that had a heated doggie bed for their dog. My mom tells me to look for it and she'll pay for it. So, I get one and I think Otis really likes it! It does get warm, not hot, but warm. I keep a blanket over it for added warmth. I also got him a red and black flannel doggie shirt with a fleece collar. Tell me this dog isn't spoiled??? But, I'm not feeling so guilty being gone all day and him freezing his tush off.

I've had a fun week. Went to my first Rodan + Fields meeting in Franklin, TN. It's a wonderful group of people and I'm so glad to be apart of something so fun! I also have been using the products and can't even tell someone how much it has changed my skin! It's smooth and even! I also made Executive Consultant! I'm on my way to millions! Who else wants to join me?

Well, my plan for Christmas is to go home the day before Christmas Eve and come back the day before New Year's Eve. I love that several of my friends in DC have asked if I'm bringing Otis. He's more popular than me I think! :-) That's okay.... :-)

My friend Beth came over last night and we went through shoes and party dresses. She's trying to get dolled up for a birthday party on Saturday night. She's going look hot!!!! She let me model my dresses to see which one she liked the most. Rodan + Fields is having a holiday party at the Aloft hotel and I want to look my best! I do wish we had more occasions to dress up! :-)

Well, blessings to everyone! I hope this holiday season is a very special one for everybody!

Long time no see...

Well, I'm sorry I've been horrible at this. I'm going to start setting aside time each day to post a little something. A lot of fun and funny stuff has happened lately, as well as some sad stuff. I've been able to be involved in some really interesting stuff and I've been involved in some extremely frustrating things. I've made new friends, I've lost touch with some dear ones. Hopefully 2010 will bring everything back to smiles, I hope that for everyone!

So, to update you. I lost my job at Deloitte in May, but it was a good thing. They treat their people miserable. They've recently had several people find new jobs and leave and they seem surprised by this... It all ended up boiling down to a female boss that hated me for no apparent reason, but wore down the remainder of my bosses and they probably finally said "FINE, get rid of her". The one saving grace is that I got a really good severance package and I didn't work all summer long. Which I did nothing with. I played on the lake with my best friend here in TN, Shannon, her family and the friends I've made through her.

Well, as the summer was winding down, I found that jobs weren't moving very fast. I'm sure everyone knows this... This economy sucks. Well, I've started working as a waitress (thought I had potential to be a bartender, but I think they were short waitresses at another place). It's been okay, just a slow place as well, probably due to the economy as well. Well, not long after I started working there, she asked me to be a manager. I was going to take it, but another job came along from 9 to 5 M-F paying pretty good. I figured, being that had regular hours, I should take it and just stick to waitressing. Well, waitressing there had progressively stressed me out... Yesterday should have been the end of my two week notice, but I felt bad, she had one girl not show up and another girl quit the night before (and yet another that had put in notice and worked it out the week before). She's not doing very well. So, I agreed to stay on this week (she had scheduled me Tuesday through Saturday night), but that I needed Wednesday and Thursday off. I forgot I needed Friday off, but I may not be able to do anything about it now...

Well, what's my other job you say? I work at a used car lot. It's interesting and I've been licensed to sell cars! haha He's probably one of the only people in the area that will take a small chance on local buyers and finance them. Though what's cool is he actually puts GPS devices on the cars to shut off the starter in case the person doesn't pay or doesn't keep up with the correct amount of insurance. Its interesting...

My latest adventure has been Rodan+Fields Dermatologists. Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields are the dermatologists that developed Proactiv Solution. They've developed probably the only OTC product to reverse sun damage, as well as other products and skincare regimens.

I've also been asked to help sell ads for a local website that has photos and videos of local events, as well as a comprehensive listing of local businesses.

I like a hodgepodge of things... :-)

Well, I'll talk to you soon!!!

Ooops

I realized, I'm a bad blogger....

I didn't have much time to blog when I was at Deloitte, but I realized that I haven't had a job since May, so I have no excuse any longer.

I will do better...

I almost hopped a plane to DC today, I didn't because I promised a good friend here that I would "model" in a fashion show for a charity event on Saturday. I walked a half marathon...
In my defense, I did it with my boss' wife and I might have been able to run it if I had tried, but I wanted to do it with her, so I walked. It took us a little over 4 hours, but I had fun! I got to see Nashville!

So, I was about to bail on the LPIM (Lake Placid Ironman), but I talked to Tony today. He said that from now on when I think I can’t do it to remember “Tony says that I can do this, Tony believes in me, I believe in me! I CAN DO THIS!” So, I’m going full steam ahead! GO LPIM!!!!

Well, here’s an update on Nashville. I moved in yesterday to a 2BR/2BA in Hermitage, TN! I also got my car registered yesterday in TN, my VA plates were going to expire the end of the month, so I got that taken care of. My mom is coming to visit this weekend, I’m going to put her to work!!!

That’s it for now, I’ll update as I go! Miss yall! Also, there is that saying, "what doesn't destroy you, makes you stronger". Maybe I should be listening to this stuff? I dunno, I think if I could get settled into the Nashville area, I'd feel a little better about Ironman!

So, when's the house warming party, you ask? I'm moving to Nashville! I don't know exactly when, there have been conflicting views on when that should be, but I'm hoping it'll be late enough I can still do the Lake Placid Ironman (7/20/08)... I really want to be here to train with my team (Team Z - www.triteamz.com)

Now, do you want my opinion on the matter? I'm estatic! I've needed a change for a while and I think this is going to be the exact thing I have needed! I have nothing keeping me in Northern VA/Washington DC. So, off I go! I can probably afford a 3 or 4 bedroom house with a 2 car garage there too! Right now I'm living in a 700 square foot condo... And I have a dog! So, it'll be a great move for that reason alone! I had a girl come up to me the other day, while having breakfast with a good friend. And she overheard that I was thinking about moving and said that she used to live there and would move back in a heartbeat! Unbiased opionion after unbiased opinion has told me to go. So yesterday I officially told my director I would do it and announced it to the group!

So, keep me in your thoughts! I'll announce the big move when I know it will be!!!

:-D Gin

Bassman Half Ironman, I was number 1....

The week before:
I ate well! I made sure all my meals were healthy and full of good things. I didn’t exercise for fear that I would over do it! I wish I had done some swimming… Oh well, you live you learn and I did learn a lot on this journey.

Saturday 10/6/2007:
I rode up with Chris from my team’s wife, we had a tough time figuring out where things were, New Jersey isn’t that great for directions. We got there and I was able to get checked in. I was Number 1!!! I made them double check to make sure! Hahahaha I may not win the race, but I was number 1! We went to dinner with some of the team to this place called Rufici’s and there was a guy singing that sounded like Frank Sinatra!!! I joked that I needed to see if he would come sing at my funeral the next day! Hahaha Well, I got back to the hotel and woke Tony up! Sorry Tony!!!

Sunday 10/7/2007:
4:30-4:45 am: Tony’s alarm goes off… I get up cause I know I need to! I start getting my water bottles filled and mixed. Which ends up taking FOREVER!!! Hahaha Sorry Cathy and Connie!!! But thanks for the ride and being patient with me!
6:15 am: We get there, they take off to get checked in for the International distance. I pump up my tires, put my race number on my bike and grab my gear. As we were pulling in I noticed everyone had flash lights and wondered if I would be able to see to set up my transition area… By the time I got there, light had gotten a little better. So, I could see well enough. I set up everything, put my Garmin on my foam portion of a foam noodle (like Tony!) and grabbed my wetsuit and other bag (for the Team Z tent) and went to the tent. I ate a granola bar and sipped on a water bottle of accelerade. And I tried hard not to let the butterflies bother me… I did manage to put my lip gloss in my jersey before putting on the wetsuit. I forgot my chapstick, so I had to go with what I had. I put on the wetsuit and went to the pre-race meeting… Butterflies were getting worse, I tried not to think about it. Well, we started lining up, I was wave 3 of the swim, which means I started last (all the women – there weren’t many of us).

SWIM: (53:48) The horn sounded for us to go and I followed the other ladies into the water (I wanted to stay back, I knew I’d be a slower swimmer than they were). Well, swimming out to the “gate” (they made us do a lopsided mushroom shaped course twice) I realized that I wasn’t ready for it. I was struggling and girl asked me if I was okay, I said something to the effect of “I don’t think I can do this”, she said “me either, but try one loop”, it made sense and once I got around my first buoy after the gate, I realized I could walk. So I walked on the sides of the funny shaped mushroom, thinking to myself “you’re gonna have to attend swim practice from now until the day you die for this”. Haha Well, I made it through 2 loops, alternating walking/running and swimming. As I got out of the water, I started pulling the wetsuit down and seeing all the Z’ers doing the International distance. Justin in particular stuck out in my mind cause he was so excited to see me get out of the water!!! THANKS JUSTIN!!!!

T1: (6:42) Well, I saw Tony when I entered the transition area and Manuela was there just leaving. I got heckled by a cute guy standing by the transition area. He was telling me that I needed to hurry up and that number 1 meant I was fast. He said he was gonna tell my coach. So I said “Coach Ed will tell you what he tells us, to have fun”.

BIKE: (3:43:07) The first loop was awesome, seeing all the Z’ers on the bike course really kept me going. I couldn’t believe how inspiring it was to see my buddies on the ride!!! When going across the bridge the first time I saw the photographer, who said something about what a great smile I had, that kept me going, cause I knew I still looked like I was having fun! Hehe I saw the photographer again, just before crossing the bridge. Coming in from the first loop seeing Frank and other Z cheerleaders was absolutely awesome, as well as seeing them on the way back out for the second loop. I really hoped they would be there when I came in again, but the officers were keeping me going at that point. I’d said “thank you for being here” to all of them and the volunteers. Oh, really funny, the little boy that was directing people to the loop at the far end of the bike course, he was sitting down looking at the ground and I noticed him at the last second and said “hey, is there where I turn?” he looked up and said “Yeah, sorry”. Hahaha poor little guy was bored… Well, on the way back in from the loop, I passed a girl with a flat, being that I couldn’t help her any way, the next volunteer I saw, I told them there was a girl with a flat back there and they may want to see about sending her some help. I rode back into the park and told the policeman there “I’m so glad to see you again!” As I was riding in, I was starting to feel nauseous.

T2: (5:36) The nausea continued in transition two. I had noticed at the end of the bike that the balls of my feet were hurting, so I took off the socks I had on the bike wiped my feet down big time, put on a fresh pair and my shoes and hat and off I went. Ed and a few others were trying to get me to hurry up, but I was still feeling sick.

RUN: (3:04:38) Well, I walked the entire first hour of the run. My first aid station, I ran into Tony, he was severely dehydrated he said. I had other things on my mind, I went in search of a bathroom, which luckily were plentiful on the 5 mile loop part of the run. I also got passed by Grace and Manuela on the first hour of the run. But slowly everything calmed down and I was able to get into my 5 minutes running Z2, 1 minute walking routine. As I was passing the aid station on the beach, the guys there offered me water, so I decided to stop, they even gave me a bottle to take with me full of water. They also offered me a massage, saying they were a full service aid station! Hahaha I made them promise to give me that massage at the end of the race. Never saw them again. I think my age on the back of my leg scared them away. Well, on the run, I started to get emotional. I made myself stop because I knew I wouldn’t be able to breath if I started crying. Coach Ed caught me on the way through to finish up the run with the 5 mile loop and hugged me and said “You’re running!” and I hugged him back and said “Stop it, you’re gonna make me cry”. Hehehe Thanks Coach Ed, I’m so proud to be on your team! Well, in the last 5 miles, I stopped at one of the last aid stations and the girls there told me I still looked cute, which made me feel a lot better and about 2 miles from the finish, I caught up with Manuela and we finished the race together. And what a finish it was! All the Z’ers hopped up and yelled us on to the finish!!! It was awesome!
So, total time was 7:53:50. I got a burger and a couple of beers after and I was a happy dazed camper for the rest of the day! I didn’t end up getting emotional after that, I was to tired I think… hehehe Well, that’s the gist of it, hope you all come out for Lake Placid Ironman to see me do a full one! 7/20/2007 is the date to mark your calendars and Lake Placid is in NY. If you want to make accommodations now.

It's official, I'm insane....

Well, I have to admit, insanity just set in!!! Well, my buddy Jimmie gave me as a thank you gift, a bento box for my bike. For those of you who don't bike a lot, it's for putting food/nutrition in for really long bike rides, which I do a lot now. Well, on the way back from Lake Placid a couple of weeks ago, I left it on the bike (not thinking) and the 9.5 hour drive plus rain turned it into shreds that were still velcroed to my bike... hahaha Well, Tony, aka Mr. Awesome, bought me a new one with Ironman on it!!! I'm soooo cool now! So, now you know the story of the bento box! Thank goodness I have one, or how would I eat????

Culpeper Sprint Triathlon

Well, I know I've been missing in action! Truth is, I've been insanely busy. I joined a triathlon training group known as Team Z. Our website is http://www.triteamz.com/. Well, today I did a sprint triathlon. I had a blast, I did horrible, but I had fun! It wasn't my first though, I did one in April with my best friend Tami. We were just happy to finish that one! Well, today I hadn't trained much in the last 2 weeks and still managed to get out there and have a good time. Lordy lordy, the swim was insane. I'm not a huge fan of open water swims, they freak me out. But, I finished it in 21:59, kinda slow for me, but I did get dunked by a jerk guy that decided to push me under, just so he could get ahead... Thanks A-hole, you had to dunk a woman to get ahead, REAL manly of you!!! Well, I have to say, coming out of the water, I saw teammate Lynn, we both kinda had a dazed look when we saw each other (later on the bike I realized that she started a whole 8 minutes AFTER me and finished with me!!! hahaha I'm slow!) Well, T-1 wasn't exciting (2:57), my feet were dirty, but I threw the socks on and grabbed the bike and off I went. The only thing that sucked about the bike was that you had to run your bike UP hill to start the course. This wasn't a small hill FYI... But, we got to run down it on the way back in. Before the race we decided the best place for my spare tire and gear for the spare was in my bento box (which I need to write a nice blog about it, it's my 2nd in 2 weeks, kinda funny) Well, within the first 5 miles I opened my bento box to get some clif bloks and my levers fell out!!! hahahaha Oh well, you live you learn! Besides that it was uneventful, I enjoyed passing guys!!! hahaha (Bike 1:04:35; T2 1:54) But the run was awesome, I did it nice and slow, I found a nice person to run with (she was even in my age group), found out later that I beat her and was 2nd to last to finish in my age group!!! Now I feel bad... She said she'd sprint with me, so I said "Come on, let's go!!!" and took off. Oh well... I only beat her by 11 seconds! (Run 36:07 for a total of 2:07:31) Kinda fun!

Well, I'll write more later! Especially if I find some pictures! Later taters!

Halloween

Well, Halloween was absolutely hilarious. I went down to visit the family in southern VA for the weekend and ended up making my brother and I look hilarious in the process.

Got to the rents (parents) after 11 on Friday night, because I needed to stop at a fabric store for halloween costume supplies on my way out of town. Well, when I got there, I pulled out my mother's sewing machine and started working... My first project was a gigantic orange/pink star for my brother to wear. He was gonna be Patrick Starfish from that loveable kids show, Spongebob Squarepants. After making the star without the top point (was making a hat for that), I started on my costume, Spongebob Squarepants. I had a large computer box and some bumpy fuzzy yellow fabric.

Sat morning came to early. My parents, aunt and uncle and supposedly my brother and I were going to the NC State football game against Southern Miss. Well, my brother called my mom and I at 1-2 AM and said he was at a girl's house and he probably wasn't going to make it to my parent's house in the morning in time, so go without him... Lovely little brother... ;-) Well, Raleigh is 2.5 hours from my family's house, so we drove down, stopped at a liquor store, yes with the family, where my uncle and I decide to split a 5th of Captain Morgan, he's got good taste... Well, NC State was losing almost the entire game and came back in the 4th to win... It was quite exciting. The wolfpack has 2 mascots, a boy wolf and a girl wolf, who dressed up for halloween in about a million different costumes... Quite cute!!!

After we got back, my brother came over and we got dressed up for the costume contest at the local watering hole in the burg... My brother was soooo embarrassed... Though he could tell people that I made him do it and it was cute cause girls were coming up and talking to him, luckily he could say "My sister made me do it"... But, I entered his butt into the costume contest as a group for the funniest costume. I figured what the heck. We should have won second though, the woman that won second was Lorena Bobbit, which is kinda funny, but she shoulda been in the original costume contest.... Well, nothing to crazy happened, saw a lot of cool outfits. There were two girls dressed like cowgirls with blowup dolls between their legs in cowboy gear and they had t-shirts that said "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" on it. They won funniest, it was quite amusing.

Here's pics:
http://www.kodakgallery.com/BrowsePhotos.jsp?&collid=788186639205&page=1&sort_order=0&favorites=true

Well, Sunday was uneventful, went to see Tami and Michael and my little niecey, Faith. She's getting so big!!!

Hope you had a Happy Halloween!!!

Lata!

My first blog

So, this is my first time "blogging". I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

Well, I'm a JMU grad (James Madison University) for those of you who don't know how cool JMU is. I'm living in the DC area. And I work for a big four accounting firm doing computer forensics.

Well, I'm coming off a really fun weekend. I got to go apple picking and then to the air and space museum in DC this weekend. This was a great way to spend the weekend, because I'd had a really busy week at work. All in all, a very laid back weekend, but seriously one of the most fun I've had in a while.

While apple picking, we got a pumpkin, so we could make homemade pumpkin pie, as well as homemade apple pie. It's funny though, the pumpkin is still sitting in my hallway unused. It was going to take a lot of effort to convert it into a pumpkin pie, so we took the easy way out and used the can of pumpkin pie filling I had. Maybe if I'm motivated enough this week, I'll attempt the pumpkin pie making. Did you know you have to do quite a bit to a pumpkin before you can make a pie from it? OH, forgot to say that I got hit in the head with an apple, didn't have any great revelations like Newton, but I guess that won't always work for everyone. :-D

Well, will write more later.
